In an audiotape broadcast Saturday on an Arab satellite channel, a voice claiming to be that of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden praised attacks on American forces in Iraq, saying the Americans were waging a “new crusade against the Islamic world.”
The authenticity of the tape broadcast by Al-Arabiya channel in Dubai could not be immediately confirmed, and a rival channel in Qatar claimed that it had broadcast the same material two months ago.
“This is 100 percent the same tape we broadcast in October,” a spokesman for Al Jazeera told The Associated Press in Cairo after Al-Arabiya’s broadcast.
