Engine problems forced an American Airlines flight to return to O’Hare International Airport shortly after takeoff Saturday. Nobody was injured.
The plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-80, was taking off shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday when there was a turbine failure in the right engine, said American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan. Fagan said the pilot, following standard procedure, shut down the right engine, took off, and then landed the plane at O’Hare a few minutes later.
Fagan said the 75 passengers were taken off the plane and put on another flight.
