Many spray-can furniture polishes contain mostly water–up to 95 percent, in some cases. But wood and water don’t mix, and the polish may raise the wood’s grain and cause damage. Try this mixture instead for wood furniture: a third to a half cup each of linseed oil, turpentine and vinegar. Shake well before using.
