On the one-year anniversary of their firing of coach Curt Fraser, the Atlanta Thrashers can take an eight-point lead in the Southeast Division on Friday if they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Thrashers finished 19-14-5-1 last season under Bob Hartley, who took the job three weeks after Fraser’s firing. They have kept up the pace this year (18-14-3-1).
“It’s a sweeter holiday season this year,” goaltender Byron Dafoe said.
“This team has guys with lots of character,” Hartley said. “They keep coming back and working hard, so we never get our head down. It’s just fun to be associated with them.”
