John Griffiths Marsh, passed away December 26, 2003 at home under the care of family and Hospice. Born in 1937 in New York City, son of Florence Date Marsh and Robert Lockwood Marsh, he lived in Glencoe, IL before moving to Savannah six years ago. John graduated from New Trier High School and Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and the Dragons, an honor society. After four years serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and successfully completing officer candidacy training, Captain John Marsh joined the working world in Chicago with Merrill Lynch, later forming Berghoff, Marsh, Inc., an investment banking firm. In Glencoe, John was active for many years in the youth hockey programs and also participated in the men’s leagues. A member of Skokie Country Club, he was an avid golfer. During his time in Savannah, John volunteered with CASA, working with children and families in the court system. For nine years, John and Nancy enjoyed skiing and time with friends and family at their home in Breckenridge, CO. John continued to ski and play golf until his illness. John will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Buskens Marsh; his son, Gary, and daughters, Emily and Kathy; son-in-law, Kirk Riedinger; grandchildren, Gray, Paige and Patrick; his brother, Robert L. Marsh, Jr.; nephew, Robert L. Marsh, III and niece, Heather. Memorial Service will be Monday, January 5, at 4:00 p.m. at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
