I remember one day I was coming up the stairs in school from the bathroom. A student from the other homeroom came down the stairs and told me that Ms. Flynn (the other homeroom teacher) had cancer. I was puzzled because it just didn’t seem like this could happen. She was one of the most influential people in my life, and it just didn’t seem right.
I went in to ask her at the end of the day if it was true and, sure enough, she had bone marrow cancer. This was her fourth time having cancer. She was only staying for one more day before she left to go recover.
We received a letter announcing that 20 years ago she was told she had two years to live. She planned on returning the beginning of our next school year. She didn’t return.
I believe that the good news that has come out of this experience was the bonding of our class. We have come together to pray for her, and we have just become more united as a whole. We know that if we keep praying and have faith, that we will see her soon enough. She has fought this since she was 18. She is so positive.
