Reality TV season gets under way in full force next month, with more than 10 shows premiering by Feb. 1.
Fox, the network that brought us “Joe Millionaire” and “Mr. Personality,” is hoping to hit a ratings high with another off-the-wall concept, “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance,” debuting at 8 p.m. Jan. 19, after the third-season premiere of “American Idol.”
“MBFOF” is an unscripted show within a scripted show–like “The Joe Schmo Show” meets “Average Joe,” with a twist, of course.
Over six episodes, the “bride,” Randi, a 23-year-old teacher from Scottsdale, Ariz., will try to dupe her family into believing that she’s going to marry the undesirable Steve, whom she thinks is also a reality contestant playing the same joke on his family.
She believes she needs to make it through all the pre-wedding events and walk down the aisle while keeping her family fooled in order to win $1 million, according to Fox.
But the joke is on Randi, since Steve and his TV family are professional actors trying to be obnoxious enough to ruin the wedding.
Hey, who would’ve thought “Joe Millionaire” would be a hit? You never know what might stick.
