John J. Ott, 56, of Naperville, a former Naperville police officer, died Sunday, Dec. 28, in Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, after a battle with cancer. Born in Aurora, Mr. Ott was a 1966 graduate of East Aurora High School. He received an associate’s degree in criminology from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, and later returned for computer training. For more than 16 years, he was employed as a Naperville police officer. For a while he also owned and operated The Dragon Inn/Callahans tavern in St. Charles. More recently, Mr. Ott had worked in computers for four years at Q Center, formerly with Arthur Andersen. Described as curious and fun loving, Mr. Ott was a huge fan of the Bristol Renaissance Faire, which he and his family had attended for more than 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; a daughter, Stephanie; and a grandson. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, with prayer services at 7 p.m.
