It begins with Lleyton Hewitt facing fiancee Kim Clijsters in a mixed doubles tournament at the Hopman Cup and continues for two weeks across six time zones.
Nine tennis tournaments are scheduled for Australia and New Zealand early in the New Year. They are warmups for the Australian Open, the season’s first Grand Slam that starts Jan. 19 in Melbourne.
Hewitt, who proposed to Clijsters during a Sydney harbor cruise before Christmas, will team with Australia’s Alicia Molik in Perth. The Hopman Cup, which consists of women’s and men’s singles and mixed doubles, begins Saturday and also features defending champions James Blake and Lindsay Davenport.
