It is hard to justify the firing of Dick Jauron. Although he has seemed reluctant to make necessary changes, most of the troubles of the last few years–key injuries, inconsistent quarterbacks and other player position problems–were not his fault. His players admired him and put their hearts into playing for him. The last part of this season there was a feeling of hope as Jauron slowly put together a new look with young talent and different plays. To give him one more year to try to fulfill the promise of a rebuilding team seemed fair.
It is clear that Jauron is not the only problem, or even the main one. But we will never hear the truth of the matter either from the gentleman, Jauron, or from his boss, Jerry Angelo. I sincerely regret the loss of Dick Jauron, but if this is the way of pro football, I can only hope the Bears will hold Jerry Angelo accountable in the same way next season.
