John P. Greene, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 3, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Sept. 26, 1934 in Peoria, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1956, and was admitted to the partnership of Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1966. He worked for the firm until his retirement in 1995, serving as managing partner of the San Francisco office and area managing partner for the Pacific Northwest and Japan. In 1990 he returned to Chicago as a senior partner and was the founding chairman of the Global 1000 Leadership Team. He served as president of the Illinois Assoc., for the mentally retarded, and was appointed by president Gerald Ford to serve on the president’s commission on mental retardation. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan; and three children, Scott (Allyson) of Atlanta, GA, Nancy (Bob) Caffoe of Plymouth, MN, and Jennifer (Jim) Stadler of Glenview, IL; proud grandfather of Palmer and Mary Frazier Greene, Jason, Katie, Susanna and Jenny Caffoe and Josie, Greta and Nate Stadler; also survived by sister, Carolyn (Don) Axt of Peoria, IL. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Margaret Greene of Peoria; and sister, Mary Barbara Faville of Littleton, CO. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm St., Glenview.
