Riverdale police identified the victim in a brutal weekend slaying along a city alley but had not made an arrest in the case Tuesday.
The body of Edward P. Austin, 49, was found in the alley at 136th Street and South Indiana Avenue, Chief David Shilling said.
Austin of the 13700 block of South Indiana died of multiple blows to the head. Police found his body around 8 a.m. Saturday behind a church.
Except for the large, converted home where Austin apparently lived, the area where he was found is mainly commercial, and no one questioned in the block knew the victim. No one answered the door at the apartment house where Austin lived.
Shilling said his office is following a number of leads and is working closely with the Illinois State Police crime lab.
