John E. McMorrow’s social life revolved around his family and his volunteer work. “We’d go out to a restaurant, and he would say hello to people he didn’t know,” said his daughter Patricia Jacoby. Mr. McMorrow, 81, died of heart failure Tuesday, Dec. 30, in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. Born in Chicago, he grew up on the Northwest Side. After graduating from Lane Tech High School he joined the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945.. He returned to Chicago and married his wife, Marion, in 1946. He went to work as a civil engineer for the Cook County Highway Department. “He helped build superhighways and tollways,” his daughter said. He was a Boy Scout and Cub Scout troop leader in both Chicago and Mt. Prospect, where he moved in 1959. For more than 25 years he was active in the Glenview chapter of the Knights of Columbus, helping raise funds for the mentally handicapped. Other survivors include three sons, John Jr., Gary and Keith; a sister, Betty Vitt; and 13 grandchildren. Services have been held.
