A man was sentenced Tuesday to three years and 10 months in prison for stealing identity information from as many as 80 Illinois Department of Human Services workers to commit credit card and mail fraud.

U.S. District Judge Robert Miller Jr. also ordered Tige Fennessee to serve three years of supervised release and pay about $86,000 in restitution to five businesses.

Fennessee, of South Bend, pleaded guilty in July to an identity theft count.

Fennessee was among 11 defendants charged in an eight-count indictment returned by a grand jury in May. The indictment alleged the defendants stole identifying information such as names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth from more than 5,200 current and former Illinois Department of Human Services workers. The information was used to commit large-scale credit card and mail fraud, prosecutors said.
