And you thought you had smelly roommates?

Investigators in New York rescued 39 exotic animals living inside a woman’s home about 80 miles north of New York City.

The residents included seven monkeys, a rat and four tortoises. Sounds like a children’s book gone horribly wrong.

As usual, police discovered one monster stinkfest inside and found some animals caged and others running loose. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reported animals were segregated by species, with monkeys in one room, dogs in another and turtles in yet another.

And none of them paid rent, although each was sent to an animal rescue service.

If you want to wander in a room full of exotic pets, go to the zoo.

EYES HAVE IT: Who knew the game of marbles was making a comeback? A thief swiped 50 antique glass eyes from a hospital in Owensboro, Ky., but a surveillance camera recorded the Christmas Eve theft, and the suspect was apprehended a few days later.

LONG WAY DOWN: A teenage burglar suspected of picking coat pockets in a New York City building at Broadway and 42nd Street ditched security guards, climbed through a window on the 10th floor, and walked along the ledge before she either slipped or fell eight stories onto some scaffolding below, breaking several bones. It worked for Butch and Sundance, but they knew enough to land in a river.

UPDATE THE RESUME: A robber hit a Houston fast-food restaurant, and police tracked him down after they found a job application on the floor with his info on it. Give the suspect some credit; it was a job application for another franchise, not the one he supposedly held up.
