I laughed out loud (in a restaurant) when I read Sunday’s headline, “Critics: Tests dumb down math; Too much emphasis on basic skills, top educators say.” (Page 1) What is math, if not “basic skills?” The American student will only know math if forced to learn basic skills in class. Any other “teaching” in a math class is a total waste of time.
