Last summer, American women headed for salons to have their bodies sprayed with tanning oils so that their legs had a smooth, even tan color. But a better idea may be coming soon–make way for spray-on hosiery.

According to The New York Times Magazine, a Tokyo company, Nissin Medico, introduced silklike Air Stockings in an aerosol can in February. It is not available in the United States, but so far, about a million cans at $15 each have sold in Japan.

You also can buy it in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Each can holds 10 to 15 days’ worth of stockings.

As The Times notes, it doesn’t come in fishnet pattern, but it is available in terra cotta, bronze and natural. And it washes off with soap and water.

It could be the answer to a cooler business-like look on a sizzling summer day.
