The Bartlett Village Board this week approved a resolution authorizing a grant application to help pay for a railroad advance warning system that would be interconnected with the new Oak Avenue/Railroad Avenue/Main Street traffic signal system.
The device changes all signal lights to red when a train approaches, to stop vehicles from crossing railroad tracks.
Community Development Director Jim Plonczynski said the project is part of the overall public improvements for the new Town Center and the Metra station development.
If the grant is approved, it would reimburse the village for funds spent to install the device, Plonczynski said.
The grant request will be submitted to the Northwest Suburban Mass Transit District.
