In a surprise move Thursday, Hewlett-Packard said it will start selling a version of Apple’s iPod, one of the most lusted-after products on the market.
The deal means Apple will manufacture iPods in Hewlett corporate blue this summer, and Hewlett will include iTunes software on its PCs. It’s a coup for Apple and a major realignment of forces in the computer world: Apple has never teamed up with a competitor like this before.
Pricing wasn’t disclosed, and the alliance doesn’t include the new mini-iPod Apple announced earlier this week–at least not yet.
Microsoft execs appeared unprepared for the announcement and pouted that the agreement would limit choice and harm consumers.
