West Virginia leading scorer Drew Schifino, averaging 17.6 points through 11 games, was suspended indefinitely Friday for violating unspecified team rules.

“I haven’t talked to him since he walked out of here [Thursday] … that’s all I can say about it right now,” coach John Beilein said.

Schifino’s playing time had decreased significantly during the season. He played less than 35 minutes in just one of West Virginia’s first six games.

His 48-game streak of scoring in double figures, the nation’s longest and a school record, was snapped Wednesday in West Virginia’s 63-52 loss to Notre Dame.

Ramblers’ good news

Loyola has restored the eligibility of freshman forward Blake Schilb after accepting his appeal over his performance in one class.

Schilb, averaging 10.9 points per game before missing the last two games, will play Saturday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Hawkeyes on hold

Nick DeWitz and Erek Hansen remain in academic limbo, Iowa coach Steve Alford said.

Alford said both sophomores were still on the team, but he did not know when their academic status would be clarified.

“We’re still waiting for the paperwork to get done,” Alford said.
