A shot-and-a-beer joint this ain’t.
At The Bar at Aria, the Aria-tini is served with vodka, passion fruit and dried cranberries, and drizzled with syrup. The Sake-tini combines pepper vodka, sake and an oyster and is served with two pieces of sushi. So it’s no shocker that the new Metrosexual Martini arrives with hand and face lotions, a rejuvenating eye mask and a voucher for a free manicure. Oh, yeah, and it’s served on a mirrored vanity tray.
Burhan Culculoglu is the director of restaurant operations at this hipster haven in the Fairmont Hotel, 200 N. Columbus Drive. He invents drinks on a monthly basis, and now Chicago’s metrosexuals are being served.
“I am a metrosexual,” he said while sipping his signature martini. “The metrosexual is the modern, urban man who takes care of himself–his skin, his clothes, his food, his soul. I saw the need to make a drink for him.”
That drink is a mixture of 6 ounces of Ciroc vodka, three drops vermouth and three plump olives. The package–complete with the beauty aids–costs $16. It has been a success since its introduction in early December and will likely be a permanent fixture on the drink menu alongside the Duchess of DuPage Martini and the Bikini Line Shot. “Not many bars are into creativity,” Culculoglu said. “People put so much thought into food. Why not into drinks?”
Any tough guy who polishes off a few of these might need that mask in the morning–Bloodshot Eyes for the Straight Guy.
