Florence A. Murphy, of Park Ridge, 86, affectionately known by her family as “the Babe”, passed away in peace at her long time home where her husband of 55 years, William R., still lives. Florence was born Feb. 19, 1917 to Lillian and John Gats of Chicago, IL. She lovingly raised her four children but also worked outside the home for many years at the O’Hare International Bank near her home. Babe enjoyed participating in golf and bowling leagues and the camaraderie of her friends. She took pleasure in playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, garage sales and occasional travel. Florence is also survived by her four children, Maureen (Thomas) Gillette, Cathleen (Thomas) Johnson, William J. Murphy and Bryant (Patricia) Murphy; her grandchildren Sean Murphy and Leslie, Chad, Nathan, Justin and Nicole Johnson; and two great-grandchildren; and her brother James (Jean) Gats. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1605 Vernon Ave., Park Ridge (behind Lutheran General Hospital).
