Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell once sang the song “There ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough to keep me from you.” This thinking applies to changing NCAA rules relative to a Bowl Championship Series game (“Changes afoot for BCS system,” Sports, Jan. 5) The NCAA brass can do whatever it sets its mind to do.
This rule that post-season collegiate football games can’t be played after the first week of January is not sacrosanct. Religious forces did not carve this regulation into stone. The NCAA could waive this rule if it wanted to. If the brain trust in Indianapolis would implement this waiver, this would set-up a playoff game between LSU and USC on Jan. 17. And, then, this fuss about which team is the real No. 1 team in college football could be settled once and for all.
