Chris Feldott loved to reminisce about the good old farming days of summer, when the rural landscape of his hometown of Batavia appeared drenched in the warm glow of cornfields at sunset. Mr. Feldott, 91, of Aurora, a lifetime farmer whose pride in his farming heritage inspired many, died in his home, Saturday, Jan. 10, of natural causes. Born in Aurora, Mr. Feldott was raised on his family’s dairy and grain farm that his grandparents first settled in the late 1800s in the Batavia area on land next to what became Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. He was wed in 1945 to Evelyn Piltz, to whom he was married for 52 years until her death in 1998. In 1969, he moved his family to Aurora, where he continued to farm with his two sons and brother. Family members recalled Mr. Feldott’s love of the land. For several years, Mr. Feldott was the director of the board for the Kane County Farm Bureau and was a board member of the Sugar Grove Park District and the DuPage Pure Milk Association. He also worked as a Pfister seed corn dealer for many years. Described as an “engaging conversationalist,” Mr. Feldott delighted in sharing memories of his life as a farmer with his grandchildren. His favorite pastimes included playing canasta and performing polkas and waltzes on his concertina at family events. Mr. Feldott was also a member of the Aurora Moose and the Round Grove Community Club in Aurora. Survivors include two sons, Gene and Raymond; two daughters, Alice Krieger and Dorothy Hawking; a sister, Clara Jennings; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter Catholic Church, 925 Sard Ave., Aurora.
