Steve Chapman’s column “Forgive me if I don’t feel like forgiving” (Commentary, Jan. 8), in which he discusses issues relating to forgiving repellent behavior, is accompanied by three photos of perpetrators of such behavior, designated as exhibits. Exhibit A is a photo of sports legend Pete Rose, who recently admitted that he bet on baseball and on the team he managed, after denying it for years. Exhibit B is a photo of journalist Stephen Glass, disgraced for his writing scams. Exhibit C is a photo of former President Bill Clinton, widely attacked by Republicans (and others) for engaging in “white lies” to protect the reputation of his intern Monica Lewinsky.

May I suggest that by far the most important exhibit of all is missing from this rogue’s gallery?

Exhibit D should show our current unelected president, George W. Bush, with a caption to point out that Bush has lied repeatedly to the American people and even led us into war on the basis of lies and fabrications, and not only has he shown no remorse, he is threatening the whole world with war without end.

If that doesn’t rate top status in a rogue’s gallery exhibit, I don’t know what does.
