If President Bush had set his sights just as grand but only here on Earth, we might not have to ever worry about oil again. As a nation, we’ve already been to the moon. For the amount of money he will siphon out of this country’s coffers to re-enact something that was done 35 years ago, we could be rid of our dependence on oil in this country by the end of the decade.
Hydrogen power is coming, but not fast enough. Research and development needs the type of investment that only this country, as a whole, can make, much like when the transcontinental railroad was built in the 19th Century and with the Apollo program in the 20th Century.
For some reason President Bush seems to think that reinventing the wheel to go to the moon here in the 21st Century requires more imagination than an energy mission right here on Earth. Hydrogen power can be that 21st Century mission for the president if he would only think like anyone else but the oil man that he is.
