Rev. John Patrick Murphy, O.S.A., age 74, died Jan. 13, 2004, loving son of the late Patrick and Ella, nee Gorman, Murphy; and fond cousin of many. A native of Chicago, professed vows as an Augustinian Dec. 4, 1951. Ordained a Priest June 5, 1957. Taught at St. Rita High School, Chicago. Member of the Augustinian Mission Band for preaching for 31 years, based first at St. Joseph Mission House, Fort Wayne, Indiana and then at St. Rita Monastery, Chicago. Associate Pastor of St. Jude Church, New Lenox, Illinois (1993-2001). Retired at Our Lady of Grace Community at Marian Village, Homer Glen, Illinois at the time of his death. Visitation Friday, Jan. 16, 6 to 9 p.m. at Marian Village, 159th Street and Messenger Blvd. (1/2 mile west of Parker Rd.), Homer Glen and Saturday, Jan. 17, 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave., New Lenox, with the Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Alsip, Illinois.
