New Jersey Devils captain Scott Stevens confirmed Saturday he has postconcussion syndrome and will be sidelined indefinitely.
The defenseman missed his fifth straight game Saturday when the Devils faced Washington. The 39-year-old Stevens hasn’t played since Jan. 7.
Stevens has no idea when the concussion occurred and did not set a timetable for his return.
Desjardins breaks arm
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins broke his right arm Saturday night when he collided with teammate Jeremy Roenick. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Roenick tried to check Toronto’s Mats Sundin along the boards but hit Desjardins instead. Desjardins went down clutching his arm.

Patrik Elias scored both Devils goals, including the winner 2:17 into overtime. Corey Schwab, giving Martin Brodeur a rare day off, made 18 saves to improve to 2-0-1 this season.

Martin Havlat had two goals and two assists, and Martin Prusek made 20 saves in the Senators’ victory. The Bruins saw their seven-game unbeaten streak end.
N.Y. Rangers 2 at Montreal 2
Alexei Kovalev scored with 5:06 remaining in regulation to lift the Rangers into the tie. Montreal’s Pierre Dagenais, who scored his fifth goal in six games in the first, hit the post in OT.
Buffalo 2 at N.Y. Islanders 4
Kenny Jonsson had a goal and assist, and Rick DiPietro made 27 saves to lead the Islanders. New York has won nine of 11 at home. Both teams had a goal disallowed.
Philadelphia 4 at Toronto 0
Robert Esche made 35 saves for his second shutout of the season and Michal Handzus scored twice as the Flyers completed a home-and-home series sweep of the Maple Leafs.
Tampa Bay 1 at Florida 2
Roberto Luongo made 50 saves and Olli Jokinen scored two 3rd-period goals to lead the Panthers. Florida snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) despite being outshot 51-15.
Minnesota 2 at St. Louis 2
Doug Weight scored on a power play with 1:37 remaining in regulation to give the Blues the tie with Minnesota, extending the Wild’s overtime unbeaten streak to 24 games.
Edmonton 1 at Nashville 2
The Predators stretched their unbeaten streak to 6 games. The Oilers’ Cory Cross suffered a broken nose when he was hit by a puck when Scott Hartnell tried to clear a shot.
San Jose 2 at Colorado 1
Nils Ekman scored 15 seconds into the 3rd period for the Sharks. San Jose is 10-2-1-1 in last 14 games. Colorado had 4-game winning streak snapped but is 8-1-0-1 in last 10 games.
Dallas 3 at Calgary 2
Jere Lehtinen and Jason Arnott scored 2 minutes 32 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Stars, who won for just the third time in their last 10 games.
Anaheim 2 at Vancouver 1
Vaclav Prospal scored the go-ahead goal and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped Daniel Sedin on a penalty shot, leading the Mighty Ducks, who are 1-5-3-0 since New Year’s Eve.
