Arthur B. Johnson, a longtime resident of Downers Grove, died on January 16, 2004, at the Fairview Baptist Home. He was 86. Mr. Johnson was a native of Oak Park. A 1935 graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School, he attended Cornell College in Iowa and I.I.T. For nearly 40 years, Mr. Johnson served as an Engineering Manager at Taylor Forge & Pipe Works and its successor company, Gulf & Western Engineered Products Group, in Cicero and Skokie. After retirement, he continued to work as a self-employed consultant to the steel forging endustry. Mr. Johnson was a skilled furniture maker and handyman and a skilled golfer. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; and his daughter, Judith. He is survived by a son, Steven; and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bowden of Philadelphia; as well as nieces, Barbara Mott of Glen Ellyn and Terry Leinbach of Blackduck, MN; a nephew, Rev. Tim Boal of Montague, MI; and his sister-in-law, Jean Boal of Frankfort, MI. Funeral arrangements are private. Donations to the Humane Society of the United States would be appreciated.
