I am a supporter of George Bush. I do not agree with everything he says or does, however. I believe the money used for space exploration can be spent in more healthy ways here on Earth.

With that, however, I would also like to remind those attacking his plan that a space mission come to fruition is an enormous scientific accomplishment. It gives us all a sense of national pride to think we were able to succeed at something other nations can only dream of.

I believe people hold sour attitudes in regards to space travel because they do not see any significant or immediate benefits to mankind. Keep in mind, however, that the universe is infinite and some answers to our problems as a society most likely exist elsewhere. I’m talking about cures for sickness, alternate fuel supplies, etc.

In regards to landing a manned spacecraft on Mars, many are laughing at our president and saying the idea is ludicrous. They also laughed throughout the ’60s at the idea of a manned trip to the moon, but President John Kennedy and others did not lose sight of their vision.

Don’t forget that although people may sometimes fail to see the big picture, the best way to ensure NASA will succeed is to tell it that something cannot be done.
