As an anti-fur activist, I must say, with great sadness, that your article makes a valid point. We have not been as effective as we could be in getting the message about the cruelty of the fur industry out to a younger generation.

But reporter Wendy Navratil failed to mention that there is an active anti-fur movement in Chicago, and she implied that Fur Free Friday no longer exists, which hundreds of protestors (and spectators) can tell you is incorrect.

Worse yet was her unquestioning acceptance of the Fur Information Council’s insane spin about how animals used for fur are treated humanely and how fur is somehow good for the environment. She did not question this nonsense or, for balance, seek an opposing viewpoint or documentation from an anti-fur organization. After all, the FIC represents people who make their living selling fur; what do you expect them to say?

I encourage Navratil to make an unexpected visit to a fur farm or to follow a trapper and see an animal’s suffering after days caught in a painful trap. I’m certain she would write a different story.
