Edwin L. Douglas, age 89, retired Circuit Court Judge of DuPage County. Died January 19, 2004, at Edward Hospital, Naperville. He was born June 6, 1914, in Chicago, but Warrenville was his home for the greater part of his life, having resided there since 1947. Survived by his daughters Marion (Mike) Douglas-Hempel, Diane (Tom) Lord, Jean (Ray) Stoia and Dorothy Douglas; his grandchildren Erik (Jeannie) Long, Chris Long, Doug Conway, Ryan and Jenna Stoia and Ben, Joe and Katie Cole; his great-grandchildren Amanda and Alex Long; and his niece Lorie Ann Douglas. Judge Douglas was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Douglas, nee Sperry; his parents Edwin B. and Belle LeClaire Douglas; his sister Jeanette Douglas Lifka; and his grandson Jay Stoia. He was a graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, European Theater. Judge Douglas also was a member of the Warrenville VFW Post #8081, the Lions Club, Warrenville Historical Society, a member of St. Irene Catholic Church and past president of the church’s school board. Throughout his retirement years he remained active, occupied in gardening, traveling, reading and socializing. He was ever a lover of nature and animals and in whatever circumstance he found himself, he never lost his quick wit or sense of humor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Irene Church, 28W351 Warrenville Rd., Warrenville. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
