Desperate to fix a struggling offense, Carolina acquired right wing Justin Williams from Philadelphia for defenseman Danny Markov on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes rank last in the NHL with 86 goals. Williams , who had one shot in a 3-1 loss to Ottawa Tuesday, has six goals and 20 assists this season.
Markov started for Philadelphia Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to Montreal.
Kasparaitis out 2-3 months
Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks because of a broken bone in his left leg and a sprained ligament in the knee. Initial reports had him out just two weeks.

Slava Kozlov scored twice, Pasi Nurminen made 24 saves in 2nd start since reclaiming job from Byron Dafoe, who had made 3 straight starts. Thrashers 6-2-1 against Sabres at home.

Rookie Scott Clemmensen made 25 saves in 1st NHL start, becoming 2nd Devils backup (Corey Schwab) to shut out Penguins in 2 tries. Devils 3-0-1 when Martin Brodeur doesn’t start.

Toronto’s Darcy Tucker didn’t return after getting high-sticked in left eye in 2nd. Ed Belfour made 25 saves for 5th shutout, 70th of career, 3 fewer than Martin Brodeur on active list.

Tommy Salo posted 3rd shutout in 6 games, Raffi Torres scored twice. Salo stretched home scoreless streak to 121:25. Defenseman Scott Ferguson scored 1st goal in 49 games for Oilers.
Calgary 1 at Los Angeles 4
Ian Laperriere scored twice to snap 29-game drought. Kings won consecutive games for 1st time since Dec. 4-6. Flames’ Dean McAmmond got his 1st short-handed goal in 622 games.
