Jefferson Middle School Principal Michael Kuzniewski has resigned after more than eight years on the job and is no longer working at the school.
Villa Park Elementary District 45 Supt. William Schewe acknowledged that it is “highly unusual” for a principal to leave during the school year.
Kuzniewski left last month and is being paid through the end of February, Schewe said. Kuzniewski will be on unpaid leave through June 30.
Schewe would not provide a reason for the resignation. Reached at his St. Charles home, Kuzniewski said he resigned “for personal reasons.”
“There are some things that are more important than your job,” said Kuzniewski, who called his time in District 45 “a mutually acceptable experience.”
“I was pleased with the district for helping me to achieve my goals,” he said.
Assistant Principal Pat Hubbard is Jefferson’s interim principal for the remainder of the school year.
District 45 will advertise the opening in the spring, Schewe said.
