Texas Tech quarterback B.J. Symons, who threw for an NCAA-record 5,833 yards last season, underwent surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He injured his knee during a celebration in the end zone after he threw a TD pass to Wes Welker in a 52-21 win over Iowa State on Oct. 11 but played the final seven games. A time frame for his recovery was not available.

– David Wolke, a quarterback at Smyrna High School in Tennessee, and Tampa linebacker Maurice Crum Jr. announced they will play for Notre Dame.

– Kent State quarterback Joshua Cribbs pleaded innocent to a domestic violence charge. Municipal Court Judge Donald H. Martell set a hearing Friday for a charge of trafficking marijuana, a fifth-degree felony.
