I was very pleased to see the Jan. 17 letter “Malpractice facts” by Robert Clifford. It answers questions about the malpractice insurance debate, such as the average amount paid to plaintiffs, that should have been asked and answered in every story published on the issue, but which I have never seen mentioned in the Tribune or other major media. Instead most stories on the issue harp on exorbitant awards as if these were typical, and are clearly based on insurance industry press releases rather than independent reporting.
