Jason Richards put himself in the Barrington basketball record book once again, but Schaumburg’s Craig Reichel spoiled the celebration.

Reichel scored 19 of his team-high 21 points in the second half Friday night as the visiting Saxons (14-3, 4-2 Mid-Suburban West) triumphed 67-56.

Richards also scored 21 points, none more meaningful than his first-minute 15-foot jumper. That shot pushed him past John Tomlinson (1975-79) for the school’s all-time scoring record (previously 1,547).

Richards also holds four other school records: steals, three-point field goals, free throws made and assists. Teammate Bucky Cox added 18 points for the Broncos (12-6, 3-3).

“I was a little nervous going into this game; I had some butterflies,” Richards said. “It was good to hit that first shot and get it out of the way, then just think about the game.”

Barrington built a 10-2 lead and led 14-11 after the first quarter. Schaumburg tied the game 20-20 late in the second and took a 22-20 lead on a basket from John Throndson. The Saxons never again trailed.

Zach Pancratz had 16 points for Schaumburg, which led 28-25 at half and 45-34 after three.
