Bartlett’s Lindsay Schrader, hospitalized over the weekend for internal bleeding, could be released Monday, Hawks girls basketball coach Denise Sarna said.
“We’re kind of playing it day-by-day, but we’re hoping she can go home,” Sarna said Sunday.
After Friday’s win over Larkin, in which Schrader fell, the 6-foot junior forward said she wasn’t feeling well. Schrader was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield on Saturday, where tests determined she had internal bleeding. Her mother, Lori, said doctors were uncertain whether the fall contributed to the bleeding.
“She has lost a lot of blood,” Lori Schrader said. “They’re trying to figure it all out and get her better.”
Schrader, a second-team Tribune All-Stater, is considered one of the area’s top juniors and has been offered a scholarship by Illinois. She is averaging 21 points a game for No. 14 Bartlett (19-4). She scored her 1,500th career point last week.
Sarna and her players hope Schrader is back on the court before the Class AA playoffs, which begin in mid-February.
“We don’t know,” Sarna said. “I’m going to tell the kids to give Lindsay her time. When the doctors say she’s OK, that’s when she’ll be back.”
