Ruth E. Whetham, late of Oak Lawn, formerly of Chicago, passed away Friday, January 23, 2004, just four days before her 84th birthday of coronary artery disease. She is survived by several loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olga M. Woodward and James O. Whetham; sister Alice Gedgoud and brothers James W. Woodward and William Whetham. Ruthie was retired from Illinois (“Ma”) Bell Telephone Company after 44 years of service. During that time, she was a member of the Bell Chorus, was politically active with the Republican Party and attended President Richard Nixon’s inauguration and inaugural ball in 1969. Ruthie loved to travel and was a member of the Englewood Outdoor Club. She enjoyed hiking and camping with her many friends. Ruthie was an independent, loving, active person. Those who loved and knew her treasured her sparkling smile, kindness and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed. Funeral Service Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Edgar Funeral Home, 10900 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn, with Rev. Samuel Lyons officiating. Interment Mt. Greenwood Cemetery.
