The reason to repeal Wilmette’s ban on handguns, which was enacted in 1989, is so that its citizens are allowed to have the best means of home defense for themselves and their families.
The shortcomings of the patchwork of municipal bans are obvious.
The criminals know in those towns the people are defenseless.
And there is less chance of injury to criminals.
Gun control is not crime control.
Gun bans only disarm the victims.
The City of Chicago, for instance, effectively bans handguns, and yet maintains the tittle of murder capital of the country.
Firearm deaths have been declining in this nation for years, while the number of guns continues to increase.
Much of the credit for the declining number of deaths must go to the many states that have passed legislation allowing licensed concealed carry.
Ridiculous gun restrictions such as the misnamed federal assault weapons ban, which banned firearms that were rarely used in crimes, have had no significant effect on death rates.
