Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I am writing with the hope that someone will address a seriously dangerous condition that exists within the Hubbard Street tunnel on the Kennedy-Dan Ryan Expressways. The problem is the lack of sufficient lighting as you enter the tunnel. On a bright, sunny day, especially when going southbound, as you enter the tunnel, you are momentarily blinded for several seconds as your eyes attempt to adjust to the lack of light. You cannot see lane markings, the tunnel wall or other vehicles, especially during the day, when vehicle lights are not on. I hold my breath every time I have to enter this tunnel, hoping that I will get through it without a collision.

I have seen a solution to similar situations in other areas where the entrance to the tunnel is brightly lighted and then the frequency of lighting fixtures is reduced as you progress through the tunnel and the eyes have time to adjust to the dimmer lighting condition.
