Max Raphael, longtime Chicago and Aventura, FL resident, 94, passed away Jan. 27, 2004. Mr. Raphael, preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind and son, Richard, was a well-known and respected attorney, practicing estate law in the Chicago area until the late 1980’s when he retired permanently to South Florida. A world traveler, Mr. Raphael was active in many organizations, most prominently serving as a past president with B’nai Brith and as a long time supporter of The Jewish Federation and Israel Bonds. Born in Rumania in 1910, Mr. Raphael emigrated to the U.S. as a young boy with his family settling in Chicago. He attended local schools and received his degree in law from DePaul University, Chicago. His son Barry of Chicago; daughter-in-law Beverly Raphael of Boca Raton; granddaughter Robyn Raphael of Boca Raton; granddaughter Lindsay Cohen and her husband Jordan, of Plantation; and sister-in-law Marion Levin of Boca Raton, survive Mr. Raphael. Services were held at the Menorah Chapel in Aventura, FL at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29. Friends may pay respects at the home of Beverly Raphael, Friday, Jan. 30 from noon to sundown.
