The motion by Ald. Virginia Rugai (19th) to give pit bull owners 30 days to dispose of their dogs is ridiculously naive (Metro, Jan. 15). Even if it were possible to eliminate the entire breed, the criminals responsible for dog fights would just go on to the next breed.
Any dog that is tortured, beaten and starved can be trained to fight.
Rugai’s district is not the only area where this crime occurs daily.
The answer is to arrest and harshly punish those responsible.
