Indiana State’s leading scorer, David Moss, was suspended indefinitely from the team Monday pending the outcome of a battery charge involving a female student who accuses him of attacking her.
Moss, 20, was released on his own recognizance after making his initial appearance in court.
The sophomore from South Holland was initially charged with domestic battery after his arrest early Saturday.
SIU in `Bracket Buster’
Southern Illinois will play host to Hawaii in a “Bracket Buster” game at 11 p.m. Feb. 21 on ESPN. Also scheduled: North Carolina-Wilmington at Illinois-Chicago at 3 p.m., Loyola at Illinois State at 4 p.m. and Northern Illinois at Bradley at 7.
The second ESPN event is a one-day set of non-conference games featuring 46 teams from 11 conferences.
Navy’s DeVoe retiring
Navy coach Don DeVoe said he will retire after this season, ending a career in which he has recorded 510 victories at five schools.
Utah State enters AP poll
Utah State earned its first spot in the AP men’s basketball poll since 1971, one of many changes in the national rankings–except at the top. For the third straight week the first three spots remain the same: Duke, Stanford, St. Joseph’s. Twelve other Top 25 teams lost a total of 14 games. The Aggies (17-1) are ranked 24th.

Wayne Simien had 18 points, including two FTs with 42 seconds left for Jayhawks (15-4, 6-1 Big 12). Kansas led by one point at half and didn’t pull away until final minutes.
