Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“She Bangs” singer William Hung may have been booted from “American Idol” halfway through his rendition of the Ricky Martin tune, but his spirit lives on.

Internet remixes of the UC Berkley student’s audition have sprung up, along with a fan site that calls Hung a “real American Idol” for trying his hardest and having the courage to follow his dreams.

The site praises Hung’s grace in the face of defeat–he told the judges he gave his best and had no regrets–and says he deserves to go to Hollywood even if he can’t sing. Fans can sign an online petition asking Fox executives to consider bringing Hung back on “American Idol,” perhaps as a correspondent.

More than 1,400 people had signed the petition as of 6 p.m. Monday.

In the meantime, Hung says he’s taking singing classes to get better.

“I feel the producers really exploited my lack of talent at this time,” he tells Berkley’s The Daily Californian. “I looked like an idiot up there. I want to be good, not something that people will laugh at.”

In other “Idol” news, Kimberly Locke, third runner-up in Season 2, is coming out with her debut album in April. The first single, “8th World Wonder,” has already hit the charts, but the title of the album is a secret, according to Launch Radio Networks.

And Kimberly Caldwell, another runner-up in the second season, is promoting the “American Idol” fragrance.
