I was absolutely outraged to read that House Speaker Dennis Hastert intends to oppose the request made by the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks for an extension of the deadline to complete its report (which only Congress can act to extend). Does Hastert have any idea what the historical ramifications would be of blocking the full vetting of such an important issue? This stinks of an ill-determined and politically motivated decision, is completely illogical and denies the right of citizens to know the truth. The public should be made aware of this autocracy, challenge the motivations of Hastert and demand that he support a measure to allow this commission as much time as it needs to complete the investigation.
