The nation’s top 10 recruiting classes according to national analyst Allen Wallace of SuperPrep Magazine.
1. Louisiana State: Coach Nick Saban’s spurning of the Bears’ offer paved way for blue-ribbon class headed by nation’s No. 1 receiver, Louisiana’s Early Doucet. Watch for 6-8, 350-pound Texan Herman Johnson.
2. Southern Cal: The other No. 1-ranked team demonstrated national appeal in landing elite prospects from Florida, Ohio and Colorado.
3. Florida State: The Seminoles nabbed four SuperPrep Elite 50 prospects including nation’s second-rated running back, Jamaal Edwards of North Carolina.
4. Michigan: Thornton defensive end Tim Jamison was the nation’s hottest recruit since dominating the All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
5. Oklahoma: Coach Bob Stoops reloads with nation’s No. 1 QB Rhett Bomar and top running back Adrian Peterson–both from Texas.
6. Ohio State: Buckeyes came away with Cleveland’s Ted Ginn, whom Wallace rates as the best player in the country and “best defensive back by a mile.”
7. Maryland: Wallace describes the Terrapins as “the surprise class of the nation” as coach Ralph Friedgen attracts 13 of Wallace’s SuperPrep All-Americans.
8. Texas: Hotbed of high school football will keep five of the state’s top 15 prospects at home, including defensive backs Andrew Kelson, George Walker and Bobby Tatum.
9. Miami: Hurricanes fend off outside intruders to land hometown linebacker Willie Williams, the No. 2 player in the nation behind Ginn.
10. Georgia: Bulldogs were able to sign seven of top 12 in-state prospects, including running back Thomas Brown and defensive lineman Charles Johnson.
