In honor of the auto show, if you had $1,000 to rent any car for the weekend, what would you take for a spin?
“I would like to try out that new Ford GT [2005] that I saw in the Super Bowl … because it’s brand-new and nobody has it yet.”
–Jonny Vu, 23
Wrigleyville
“I would rent a BMW M3, because it’s a car that I want. It just looks good, and it’s got good pickup.”
–Sara Kroll, 23
Lincoln Park
“I’ll take the Toyota Sequoia. Toyota is a reliable car–it’s a V8. I’ll take it in black on black.”
–Julio Sotelo, 29
Bridgeport
…OR BANK IT
Here is how you can make that $1,000 last beyond the weekend.
Want to impress with a kick-ass ride? Sure you could rent a “luxury” out at the airport, but here’s a way to drive in style all the time.
Exotic Car Share is a company in Palatine that allows members access to some amazing vehicles.
A membership costs $125 for five-year access to its classic car collection and $250 for access to its entire fleet, which includes everything from an Alfa Romeo convertible ($495 for three days) to a Ferrari 348 Spider ($1,500 for three days). They even pre-set your radio and provide you with a tank of gas, pre-paid I-PASS and supplemental insurance.
“Fractional car ownership is along the same lines as a corporate jet or a time share,” said George Kiebala, co-owner of Exotic Car Share. “Saving up to buy a car you can only drive in good weather, paying year-round insurance is impossible for some people, so we take care of everything. You get to enjoy the fun part.”
