Allan C. Hicks, 82, of Downers Grove, veteran of WWII, died Tuesday, February 3 in Sun City, AZ. He was born March 6, 1921, the seventh of eight children of Frank and Bessie Hicks, immigrants from England. He grew up in Batavia, IL and worked his way through college and graduated from the University of Illinois. In WWII, he was an Army officer in the Pacific theater from 1942 to 1947, participating in the Occupation. He then began a career in Accounting. Starting out as an auditor for Price Waterhouse, he then joined R.R. Donnelley & Sons in 1951 and became Comptroller in 1957, a post he held until retirement in 1982. In 1947, he married Dorothy Stephens of Chicago. They had three children, Randall, Brian and Susan. Dorothy died in 1992. He is survived by their three children; daughters-in-law Margaret and Donna; six grandchildren, Frank, Esther, Mary Ellen, Andrea, Courtney, and Daniel; his brother Lyle and sisters Shirley an Doris and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving spouse, father, companion, grandfather, sibling and friend. He will be missed very much by all lives he touched. His death is also mourned by his loving companion, Marilyn Lederle, of Minnetonka, Minnesota; her three children, Dick (Terry) Corbett, Sandy (Tom) Abts, Pam (Steve) Henefield as well as her grandchildren Chris, Eric, Ryan, Mike, Mallory, Clark and Hannah. He was always an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove. He was very involved in the Missions Commission, Chairman of Stewardship and Finance Commission, Chairman of the Building Committee, and President of the Board of Trustees. He traveled widely, especially after retirement; loved sports, was an avid photographer, loved jazz, and was an enthusiastic gardener. Visitation will be at Toon Funeral Home in Downers Grove on Saturday, February 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will commence on Sunday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove.
