I hope and pray that the DePaul University trustees have the wisdom to recognize the extraordinary merit of the highly personalized educational environment that characterizes Barat College. The Barat experience is defined by several core values, including a duty of service to others and the building of community as a value–a value in and of itself without regard to profitability.
Many dollars have been invested in much-needed capital improvements on the Barat campus. Just as much energy needs to be invested in boosting enrollment. A targeted strategic marketing plan can do wonders.
There is no question that a small liberal arts college, devoted to building character, conscience, tolerance, civility and social responsibility, is of enormous worth. Thousands of Barat graduates can be counted among the best and the brightest, making significant contributions to society.
